The newsroom

Articles

Long-form pieces, filed by desk. Every one of them was written from a fact sheet queried out of the league's own record, and every one carries that sheet at the foot of the page — the facts it used, the ones it had to qualify, and the things the record does not have.

The short-form feed

Nothing filed yet

No article has been published. The paper is deliberately quiet through the offseason — roughly one archival post a month — and the desks below start filing against the season's own calendar: a full recap and the stat dumps on Tuesday, the waiver story on Wednesday, previews on Thursday, and the big Sunday recap late that night.

When a piece lands it appears here the same hour. Publishing is automatic; nothing waits on the commissioner, and nothing reaches this page without every number in it having been traced back to a query first.

The desks

Bylines, not people

The paper is written by desks rather than by invented writers. A desk covers a beat for as long as the league lasts; a character would have to be kept in voice for twelve seasons and would curdle into a bit.

Expected Wins@ExpectedWins

Luck ratings, expected wins, bench points. Harsh on reasoning, generous with people.

Sunday Countdown@SundayCountdown

The pregame panel. Four people committing to things before they can possibly know.

The Back Page@TheBackPage

The long feature. One story a week, told properly, by the outlet allowed to be moved by it.

The Morning Wing@MorningWing

Drive-time radio. Sal and Gus have had the same argument for a decade and neither has moved.

The Wing King Press@WingKingPress

The paper of record. Decisions, milestones, the shape of a season - and never what any of it meant.

Wing Nation@WingNation

The fan blog. Says the thing everyone talked themselves out of at the time.

@WKPGrades@WKPGrades

The transactions desk. Every claim and every trade, priced and graded, then revisited.

The Ledger@WKPLedger

Prize money. Who is up, who is chasing $10.

Not staffed. The data this desk would need — the payout history, the trophy's custody log — is not on record, and a desk inventing it would be worse than a desk that stays quiet.

Trophy Watch@WKPTrophy

Where the trophy is and how long they have had it.

Not staffed. The data this desk would need — the payout history, the trophy's custody log — is not on record, and a desk inventing it would be worse than a desk that stays quiet.
